I was born in Derbyshire, England in 1961. Here are some links to sites about Derbyshire, the Peak District National Park and the town of Chesterfield, famous for its medieval church with the crooked spire, where I grew up.

I graduated from university with a degree in history in 1982 and moved to Canada in 1990. I am also a graduate of the Institute of Children's Literature of West Redding, CT and have been a prolific writer of children's fiction for many years. My first novel for young readers, The Alchemist's Portrait was published in 2003, followed by The Sorcerer's Letterbox in 2004 and The Clone Conspiracy in 2005. The Emerald Curse arrived in 2006 and The Heretic’s Tomb in 2007. I now live in Calgary with my two children, dog and cat. I write every day, whenever the idea or inspiration strikes and am always hard at work on my next projects, as well as formulating the plots, characters and ideas for a whole host of other stories.

I am a long time fan and reader of science fiction, fantasy, ancient mysteries and anything mysterious and unexplained. I was also a voracious reader of comic books, particularly Marvel comics, and y ou can learn more about superheroes, comic books and what they meant to me while growing up here . I have also retained a great interest in history over the years and have a large collection of books on every historical period imaginable. I first began to write as a teenager, when I first had the idea for a sprawling science fiction and fantasy epic. The as yet untitled work is one that I still tinker with from time to time. It may be one of the most overdue works in progress, but I do hope one day to see it in print.

In addition to my novels for young readers, I offer a variety of services for writers as well copywriting for the business community and am an instructor with the National Writing for Children Center. I am also available for readings, presentations, workshops and author in residence programs at schools and libraries across Canada and around the world, as well as at bookstores, summer camps, festivals and anywhere children gather, to talk about my books, my ideas, and the creative and writing process.
