Taxidermist
Taxidermist is part of the Dirty Jobs series.
Taxidermy is the art of preserving the skins, fur, feathers, or scales, of amphibians, birds, fish, mammals, and reptiles, and making lifelike replicas. These realistic copies are used for research and to study animals. They are also displayed as exhibits in museums or in someone’s private collection. A person who works in the field of taxidermy is called a taxidermist. Taxidermists use a number of different methods in their work and special tools are required. Taxidermists undergo training and their work may involve casting, molding, and woodworking. Taxidermists usually also have artistic skills in drawing, painting, or sculpture.
